VINTAGE 1924 MOVADO CHRONOMETER JUMBO 40x25mm 9KT GOLD RECTANGULAR ART-DECO STYLE WATCH IN SUPERB CONDITION

This exceptionally stylish gentlemen's ‘Chronometre Movado’ wristwatch was manufactured in 1924 and is quintessentially Art-Deco.

The wonderful 9kt gold case has all of the features that you want in a 1920’s piece. A huge rectangular size and curved to the wrist. The case-back is hinged and the fixed gold strap bars all just ooze quality. The watch measures a mammoth 25mm across not including the crown and 40mm tip-to-tip.

The case is in very fine condition, retaining the correct polished finish with brushed satin sides. The back hinge is perfect and the wire lugs are still perfectly sturdy.

The silvered dial with subsidiary seconds has the large elaborate Art-Deco style figures which radiate out from the centre, typical of the period. Signed by the manufacturer ‘Chronometre - Movado’ the original blued steel ‘moon’ hands are in excellent condition, with no rust.

The exceptional quality calibre 150 chronometer movement is absolutely beautiful. Spotted finish with 15 jewels and adjusted to four positions. Individually numbered 5532 under the dial for chronometer certification, making this a rare beast.

The crown is the original ‘onion’ type, not a modern replacement as they usually are with watches of this age.

Stamped with London 9ct gold hallmarks for 1924, reference and serial numbers. The 5 figure reference number 96674 indicating that the watch is made from 9ct gold and destined for the foreign, non-Swiss market (the ’66’ within the serial number) there is an excellent de-coder of Movado reference numbers and their meaning at movadolookup.wordpress.com .
