A massively difficult to find World War one period hand made British Army trench club.
This item which dates to 1914 -18, is in wonderful allover condition.
These items were made by the troops to protect themselves when the enemy raided their trenches. When German soldiers actually got into the british trenches it was especially difficult as the rifles with long bayonets of the day became unmanageable at close quarters ,so knives , axes and trench clubs were invaluable to the soldiers fighting in those conditions.
These items were scratch built often from items close to hand ...This piece has a wooden handle likely from a trenching spade and a weighted lead head with duck board nails used as a spike.
Purchased directly from the family of a Lancashire fusilier who served in Galipoli and in France in world war one.
Size 48.0 CM in Length.
Complete with display stand.
As with all of my antiques this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
